About Me

my name is george Kago, i have a sister, Milkah Waweru and a brother James Waweru. I recently joined Egerton University with a good grade in Agriculture. i have loved farming very much since it is the main source of economic activity that has erned our family money to pay for our school fees when i since childhood. Infact, i have a number of testimonies for excellent performance in agricultural projects and subjects when i was in secondary school. one of my memorable testimonies is when i emerged the top student in or district with high yields from kale vegetables we had planted in our final year exam project. my passion for crop farming started when one day my mother, brother and sister went hungry for a week during one day when there was starvation in many parts of our country. we used to eat ugali with ovacadoes for lunch and sometimes supper. this pained me so much because just to afford such a simple meal, my mother had to work at peoples homes as a househelp. the pay she got from the menial ws hardly enough to even buy us clothes. i realised since food was the major tragedy and a basic needs which we culd not survive without, i aspired to work start my own vegetable farming in our small garden to supplement our meal. currently, i am now pusuin a course in agriculture as i venture in crop farming to a commercial level. i already have apiece of land which i leased and is close to a spring, this ensures plenty supply of water that i can use to irrigate my vegetables. i hope i will expand my yields by planting the whle pices of land since i have presently planted on on a half pice of the land. My hope is that zidisha will see the see the potential in me and assist where necessary to grow the farming business and put an end to the low life that once mad my life miserable. thank you.

My Business

i am passionate and have invested all my energy into vegetable farming easpecially planting indigenous vegetables like amaranthus and African kales, garlic onions, spinach, black night shade (managu) which have very high nutritional content as expalined by most doctors. there is a growing wareness among people that vegetables should be taken daily in every meal for to boost the immune system. i have taken the initiative to plant all the varieties on the same piece of land and i have a ready market since my customers are mainly open air market women. the vegetables are on high demand to the extent i cannot supply enough of them and my competitors face the same challenge. i have practiced organic farming to attract many customers and they have been aware of this. i have gained the attention of many customer and my market niche has expanded to households. most of the families do not want to buy vegetables grown from chemical fertilisers and that is why they prefer my vegetables more than others. what makes vegetables very profitable, is that i can pick them thrice before i uproot them and plant afresh, the seeds of indigenous vegetables are cheap to purchase. on picking of the first round, i made a profit of about $ 56 and had incurred a total cost of $ 34. i will pick fot two more time before i uproots and palnt fresh vegetables. i target in my other two harvests, i will earn a total profit of $112.13 dollars. my business has a potential of developing in a large scale farming since there i more land avalable for leasing. i appeal to kind lenders to assist me and i will keep my promise of paying back the money in time. i wish you in advance the best regards as you decide to support me. you are all welcome.

The remaining $ 33, I will putaside to use incase of any upcoming expense and for paying workers during harvesting. There is a demand for food security in our country and I want my efforts to contributes in supply for foods in major towns; furthermore, I aim to venture into commercial vegetables farming so that I will also supply food to the drought hit areas in our country.
