About Me

My name is Gertrude Masiga, born on the west most county of Kenya - Busia. Busia is on the border of Kenya and Uganda and there is a lot of cross border trade between the two countries. It is an an area endowed with natural forests and rivers but sadly some have disappeared due to human activities occasioned by rapid population growth. In spite of all those issues, it is a nice place and I hope to return and settle there some time.

I lost my both parents at an early age and I went to live with my aunt in Mombasa town which is on extreme south of Kenya. This is where I did my primary and secondary education and I will forever remain grateful to my guardian who paid for my education and upkeep.

My aunt is not a person of means and that is the far she could afford to educate me. Without any other formal training, I resorted to using my hobby - hair dressing to make money. I am talented as a hair dresser and I do plaiting effortlessly and this has earned me many clients across my area.

My Business

I am a freelance hair dresser and I walk from house to house while attending my clients. I normally communicate with them using my mobile phone and I go to them since I do not have my own business premises. Plaiting is very common in our region and over 50% of women and young girls have braids or cornrows at any given time.

My charges range from $5 to $10 per head. I can do 1 or 2 heads per day depending on the complexity of the job to be done. This is what brings food on the table and I am glad that I due to my good work, I now have many clients due to referrals.

In spite of my relative success, moving from house to house is very inefficient because of the time lost while moving around. Ideally, this work should be done in a salon but I am yet to get funds to enable me rent a saloon, For this reason, I have come to Zidisha to ask for credit which will enable me take my business to the next level by opening a hair salon.

Loan Proposal

I need to buy some equipment for my hair salon so as to increase efficiency. Due to lack of some basic tools, I can only do limited work on my clients and this has limited my profitability. By buying tools such as a hair drier, a sink, and a set of towels, I will be able to do more services and attend to more clients.

By buying the above items, I expect to double my income and this will make my business have a strong foundation in readiness for more expansion in the new future. Thank you.

I take this opportunity to appreciate my lenders and Zidisha for the big support they have given me . As an Orphan life has not been easy for me. Courtesy of you i can have food on the table, pay utilities and sustain myself. I had issues paying my loan previous because my business went down and made a little profit to repay and sustain myself. I am sorry for that Lenders and zidisha too. But now i have set myself and my business is well now and same time i have increased my services now. I will love your support in making my dreams true. Thank you Zidisha.

    Hello team.
Hope you're doing well. I wish to thank you for the purchase of two seats as a result of the previous loan. My business is doing relatively well. I also happen to make my own homemade shampoo, detergent and fabric bleaching products
My little concern is that I do hope you'll give me another chance to borrow again so as to make my own products and sell aswell.
Meanwhile, I humbly request to have my mentors local ( Kenyan) contact. It's difficult to reach him through the international line he called me with.

        Hello sir.
Thank you for the timely reply. I barely remember the name of my mentor. And, as per the link you had send me; it's leading to a specific individual. Could he be the one? If not, how or where do I click to my mentor's name

And also in my dashboard I'm advised to try again with a new loan application but there's no provision for that.
Kindly advise further on the way forward.

Hello my worthy lenders, first I want to thank and appreciate you so much for the previous loan. It helped me to get some equipment important in my salon work.
Due to circumstances beyond my control, being a sole proprietor; I acknowledge the fact that the loan at some point dragged a bit and therefore I did let you down.
Nevertheless, I tried my best to to pull up my socks taking advantage of the May and August peak seasons for my business to catch up and try to redeem my status.
Having learn alot as a result of the challenging experiences I've decided to include my side-hustle business (shampoo, liquid soap & bleach) to act as backup /booster.
Hopefully this time around I'll not dissa point you.
    Thank you.

Hello my worthy and loyal lenders. Happy Easter greetings to you as well.
I'm happy to get back to you and humbled for your continuous patience on me.
It's been long since I last communicated back to you, and I also admit having been contacted by some colleagues like Agnes Nyaguthii as well as my Invitor and very close friend madam Elizabeth Kariu late last Year.
Well, things were not that bad initially for I was doing well in my business and managed to get a profit margin of 60% which apparently I had to use to cater for my daughter's academic expenses.
For some reasons at the school she had to be transferred to another school of which my business profit caterd for since I was out of career.
Of course with my husband's partly support I took her all the way to our rural area Girls' Boarding School which is in Busia. ( St. Cecilia Namenya Girls' Boarding School).
I thank God she's adjusted and now doing well.
Well, by God's grace I promise to repay back my loan balance within the stipulated time given the business is Easter festivities n soon joining the April holidays whereby I expect a boom in my business for there's alot of work.
Attached is the photo of my premise with one of the two chairs I had purchased with my previous loan.
I promise to be loyal and timely in my repayments and be communicating.
    Thank you.
