About Me

Am from a family of two and am the last born.Am also a student at the university of Nairobi but that does not keep me from my passion that is farming.I started farming in 2003 that's a strong eleven years and going strong.Stared out with two rabbits whose number grew very fast hence I had to look for a stable and reliable source of food for them.Carrots were the definite choice so I got the money from my mother. After the four months I got a very high yield which enabled me to feed my rabbits and sell the surplus which was enough to buy me my first bicycle. From there the rest is history. If i could get that much from carrot what about other crops?was the question lingering in my mind.As time has gone by i have focused on tomatoes, cabbage and capsicum.

My Business

My business is agribusiness where I have specialized on capsicum, cabbages and tomatoes.Farming is all about the more the input the higher the yield hence a larger income. My incurred cost are:
seeds-$56.36
fungicides and pesticides- $54.94
labour -$43.76
Transport -$40.10
Net sales -$550.07
Water and transport are the main challenges.Water is a challenge since it s available but watering the plants is using a watering can is quite tiresome, hence use a lot of labour.Transport is an issue since i do not own my own means of transport hence i have to settle for public means which are expensive.

Loan Proposal

Having been a beneficially of a zidisha loan I wish to apply for another one in order to be able to purchase a new drip system for my open field capsicum crops.
drip system $70.76
labor $32.57
water pipes $37.40
.Having enjoyed the benefits of the drip system in the green house I know it will also be beneficial to my open field capsicum and cabbages .This will increase my net sales from $738.07 to $850.24.The loan will be very helpful.

hi stephen Akuno you are in luck I did cabbage in my farm last season a it did great.all you need first buy hybrid seeds for best results.we have baraka f1, practor and Pretoria are the best seeds.prepare your nursery and after 3 to 4 weeks they are ready to transplant .prepare your land in flows or holes with a spacing of 45cm all around the plant and ensure you use d.a.p when transplanting ( one bottle top should be enough per plant.) then ensure you apply enough manure to the plant. use all the necessary fungicides and pesticides and foliar fertilizer.

Sorry to hear about that but weather is something we have no control over. Hopefully the drought will end soon and you can get your growing back to normal. Best wishes.

After installing the drip system my well dried up so my crops are not getting enough water hence a decrease in production and i have lost many crops. My tomatoes have been affected by a stubborn pest(tutaabsoluta) hence most of my income is going to the purchase of pesticides.due to this reason am not able to make paying the before stated installment.
