About Me

I am a 35 year old Kenyan citizen aged who resides in Kisumu city. I was born and brought up in Siaya where I attended school upto college level. My childhood was very modest and was faced with several challenges since my mother was a widow and only did menial/casual jobs to sustain the family. I am a sixth born in a family of eight.Life was very difficult as mum could only afford only one meal per day and most of the times we would go without food at home. I overcame this by excelling in class since my desire was to be the best I could be in all my endeavors.
I started my business as a side hustle beside my job. I began by selling to my colleagues and through word of mouth, I was able to reach to more clients and thus opened a shop.It has since thrived and I have no regrets so far. Where I live people are very warm towards one another including strangers. The people are very receptive and accommodating to everyone around them.
I am a mother to three lovely boys who go to school here in Kisumu. The first born would like to be an architect, second would like to be a doctor while the last born who just turned six years this month would like to be a barber!
My greatest hobby is "DO-IT-YOURSELF" (DIY) and as such I have a lot of innovations I have carried out before through this hobby.

My Business

I sell clothes, accessories and beauty products. I sell both brand new and second hand clothes. I buy the goods in bulk once every week. I chose this line of business because I have a great sense of fashion and people often asked me where I bought my clothes.I also think that people, both men and women, should dress appropriately,be confident in whatever body size /shape, smell good and be generally well groomed. The boutique business is very versatile and dynamic with fashion changing every so often. This therefore means that I have to bring in clothes that are trendy, stylish and suitable for different types of clients. Most of my clients are women who are very stylish and they often tell me that "fashion changes but style doesn't" Some of them say that "Fashion is bough yet class is inborn". So I always have to keep with the pace/ trend. The cost versus revenue vary from time to time and is dependent on factors such as; season of the year, functions, time of the month, available stock etc.but generally it is a profit-making venture. The proceeds I make from the business have enabled me to educate my children as well as my nephews and nieces, build a home for my mother, reinvest in the business and currently I am building my own home here in Kisumu. It has also enabled me to invest in agriculture in my rural home.

Loan Proposal

Since the the weaves are trending currently in my town, I will pay more emphasis in restocking more weaves and hair piece. I hope to make a 100% profit from their sale. I will purchase the at USD 2.9 and sell at USD 4.9 thus making a 100% profit.

I will use the profit to buy my children Christmas gifts which I had promised. I will also buy my mum a new Bible and Hymn book since hers are already old and she has been asking me for a very long time.

    New year greetings Zidisha team,

Please receive my sincere apologies for the delayed submission of my loan repayment.
This was occasioned by some unforeseen problems which I encountered.
My son was involved in an accident which has seen us spend most of the December in hospital and thus a huge financial burden on me.

I am therefore kindly requesting your team to give me more time to enable me re organize myself to repay the loan.

Kindly allow me up to the end of January to clear the whole loan.

Once again thank you very much for your continued support and excellent services.

    Regards,
    Irene Oppondo

I wish to thank the Zidisha team and my lenders for this offer. So far I ma receiving incredible support and services from this wonderful group. May you continue to support more people especially in Kenya where financial institutions are limited and with very high interest rates.
From this amount you have loaned me, I will purchase more hair piece and weaves to add stock to my shop. this in return will fetch me some extra income from the profit earned.
I look forward to being a long term client and beneficiary of Zidisha.

I used the previous loan to add stock to my shop. I restocked hair weaves and other product and realised a 100% profit for their sale. However, due to my mother's long standing illness , I used the profit to purchase her medicine and settle some hospital bill which was pending.
Despite the challenges i am currently facing, my children brought me joy as they all performed very well in their exams. They are currently on school's long holiday. My first born who is in secondary school scored a mend grade of B+ thus becoming position 5 6 out of 411 students.
My second born who is in class three topped his class by scoring 590 marks out of 600 marks and becoming position 1 out 80 ( he wants to become a Doctor when he grows up). The school has awarded him full scholarship from next year up to class eight and I will not have to pay a coin for his fee!
My last born scored 538 marks out of 600 and he was position 7 out of 75 pupils in class one.( He wants to be a barber when he grows up!)
We had planned to take a 3 Day vacation during this holiday but this will not be possible since my mum's illness is taking quite a toll on me. But God willing we will go for a vacation next Easter. I have started saving for that.

I have used the loan to purchase some hair weaves, hair serum, hair food, hair bands and a dozen of ear rings thus adding stock to my shop. This has made a great increase to my stock and I look forward to increased sales translating to more profit once I sell the items. so far I have sold 3 pieces of the weaves and 3 hair bands. i look forward to more sales as we approach the weekend when most of ladies visit the salons.
Right now my children are all in school and will be closing for the long holidays at the end of October.
Once again I wish to sincerely thank the Zidisha team for the continued support.
I am one very happy client.

I used the loan to purchase some body splash which my clients kept asking me about. This will really impact positively as it will increase my sales base thus earning profit to sustain my family. So far I have sold over 6 pieces of the body splash and have used the proceeds to buy more body splash and also hair bands. This year I was able to enrol my eldest son to high school . my second son is now in class/grade 3 while my last son joined grade/class 1. I have also been able to enrol for a short course in business management to enable me acquire better skills to run my business.
My neighbourhood is very friendly with all neighbours forming a social welfare group to keep up with each other's well being.
