About Me

I am from the Kikuyu tribe of Abantu, notorious for their knack of making money! I am married with two lovely children, I'm the second child of four siblings, and i grew up in Rongai- Kenya with my parents. I attended Daystar University to do a B.A. in Communication. I have also done computer packages, switchboard operations, networking, hardware/software courses, and armed with these and secretarial/typing skills i gained from a high school course i had done, I set out to find work. Luckily i did, and I have been working there for over seven years.

Financial growth has been challenging and that is why I now want to venture into Online Freelancing.

My Business

My business, simply put, is online transcription, which I commenced in May 2015. I have a day time job where I’m an Admin/HR assistant, but when I get home, after settling my family in terms of dinner and other family obligations, I set down to do my transcription work on TranscribeMe.com website, where I type away until the wee hours, to make an extra income. I do it part time during the week, but put in more hours over the weekends. I also do it during my break times at work. The income I make online, through Paypal, has proved quite substantial in supplementing my income to meet my day to day needs, and also save for the future of my family. It is also worth mentioning that since I’m paid in dollars, and the US dollar- Kenya shilling rate is currently high, it translates to more income, and is quite motivational. This has been made possible only through help from the loans I’ve received from Zidisha. I’m currently trying to diverse to other online platforms for more work, as I gain more experience.

Loan Proposal

With the initial $50, i would like to start off by buying the accessories that I will be using. i.e. Headphones (about $10) and Modem device (about $15). With the balance I would procure a study desk and chair.

I further intend to use the available avenues here like timely repayments and inviting my trustworthy friends to join Zidisha, in order to qualify for a bigger loan amount. This way i can finally buy my computer (about $200) and set up my internet connection to start off.

My repayments will be pegged on savings from my currently salary, hence secure.

I plan to undertake my transcription jobs in the evenings and nights, which are not so occupied.
Once i start making an extra income, I will be able to improve our living standards, and invest in completing my own education, and also that of our children. In the near future as i achieve financial independence, i also plan to inspire other women by training them on financial independence by online transcription.
