I am from the Kikuyu tribe of Abantu, notorious for their knack of making money! I am married with two lovely children, I'm the second child of four siblings, and i grew up in Rongai- Kenya with my parents. I attended Daystar University to do a B.A. in Communication. I have also done computer packages, switchboard operations, networking, hardware/software courses, and armed with these and secretarial/typing skills i gained from a high school course i had done, I set out to find work. Luckily i did, and I have been working there for over seven years.
Financial growth has been challenging and that is why I now want to venture into Online Freelancing.
My business, simply put, is online transcription, which I commenced in May 2015. I have a day time job where I’m an Admin/HR assistant, but when I get home, after settling my family in terms of dinner and other family obligations, I set down to do my transcription work on TranscribeMe.com website, where I type away until the wee hours, to make an extra income. I do it part time during the week, but put in more hours over the weekends. I also do it during my break times at work. The income I make online, through Paypal, has proved quite substantial in supplementing my income to meet my day to day needs, and also save for the future of my family. It is also worth mentioning that since I’m paid in dollars, and the US dollar- Kenya shilling rate is currently high, it translates to more income, and is quite motivational. This has been made possible only through help from the loans I’ve received from Zidisha. I’m currently trying to diverse to other online platforms for more work, as I gain more experience.
I have been working for about seven years in a small but fast-growing distribution company. We currently distribute chewing gum and chocolates. I have been an assistant all through, assisting the directors in Human Resource and Administrative issues, in an assisting capacity. The company now wants to officially set up an independent HR department, and promote a staff member to head it internally. I’ve been interviewed for the position, but I’m lacking in the qualifications to head this department. I’ve been granted time to upgrade m CV in order to meet the position’s requirements.
I’d now like to take a loan to take a course in Human Resource Management. I’ve established a College, (College of Human Resource Management, CHRM), where I’ve applied to do a Diploma in HRM, starting this September. This will not only arm me for the upcoming position, but also ensure that I invest in a specific profession that stands to open doors for a career in not just the company, but others too. When done with the diploma, I intend to take a Higher Diploma in HRM, after which I will become a licensed HR practitioner. The course will run for one and a half years, with three modules, each costing about 300 dollars, coming to a total of about 1,000 dollars for the whole course, including exam and project fees. I intend to add onto what Zidisha.org can lend me for each module, from my current job income and also from my transcription. I shall be taking the Saturday full-day class, which is available at the college. This still gives me time for my other ventures. I hope this meets the approval of my lenders, and I have faith that in one and a half years I shall update you, on this platform, of my success in completing my course and heading the HR department at the company I work in. As usual, I commit myself fully to make on time repayments once granted this loan. Thank you all in advance for your consideration.
