About Me

Dear Lenders and Zidisha Family,
My name is Bernard Kiprotich Towett. I come from Keringet village in Kuresoi district, Nakuru County. I recently graduated from university of Nairobi with a Bachelor of Science in physics. I am unemployed but work as a remedial volunteer teacher at Keringet Boys secondary. I teach Math’s and Physics. Since I am paid stipend which is not enough to cater for my needs, I have decided to venture in farming to raise more income. From my farming produce of Maize last year together with the poultry, I prepared a peas farm at Keringet waiting for the rainy season which I planted on June 10, 2014. I also prepared a half an acre of farm to plant pyre thrum. My hobbies include; athletics, traveling, community work, and exploring business ventures.

My Business

Dear potential lenders, first let me appreciate your generous contribution and zidisha community for the financial support to help raise income to entrepreneurs. I saved some money which I recently used to plant peas in an acre of farm at Keringet. They are due for weeding next week and seeking funds to facilitate the weeding, and pesticides. The peas have so far cost about USD 80. The loan will be a savior coming during this season. I intend to spend USD36 on weeding and USD20 on pesticides and flowering boosters. The current market of peas is USD0.4 and is expected to rise to above USD 0.7 per Kg by August. An acre is capable of producing over 1700 Kgs selling at about 680 at the current market price.
I have also prepared a half an acre for pyrethrum. I was given the seedlings free and need to cater for transport to the farm. Transporting to the farm will need USD40 and weeding will cost USD30. Pyrethrum is cheap to maintain since it is not affected by pests and diseases easily. Nakuru County has recently spent over USD9000 to support the pyrethrum farming within the county. The government is also planning to start a Pyrethrum factory plant. On maturity, (8 months) the flowers can be sold dry to the pyrethrum board at USD3.3 per Kg. Monthly produce is 60kgs selling at USD198. , I hope to expand the same by the end of the year to have about 3 acres. With the funds from Zidisha, with the poultry, and peas farm I see my dream is a dawning reality.

    Dear Lenders,
I am requesting to reschedule my loan installments. There are a lot of rains at the moment which encourage the weeds to thrive in my pyrethrum farm. I have spent a lot of money in weeding and it is really draining me given that I am not any close to harvesting them. I wish to be paying Sh. 77 per week but I will increase these installments once pyrethrum become productive.

Dear lenders and Zidisha team, I have so far done the first weeding of the pea farm. This maize produce gave me money to start on a pea and pyrethrum farm in Keringet. I however experience a lot of challenges among them, expenses on maize farm was high as well as long period before harvest. In Keringet, one will have to wait for about a year to harvest. The place is cold and experiences a lot of rainfall. I settled on pea farming whose harvest is ready in four months...
