Am Geoffrey , the 1st born in our Family , grey up and schooled in kajiado County with the Maasai community. I am a trained Information Technology expert with a passion in IT Currently, I am an IT entrepreneur.. I used to work with a tour company as the web manager and IT technician until i resigned and started freelancing in web development and graphic design.
Besides consuming loads of Graphic design journals and trends, I am into current affairs and I like watching latest local and international news and Documentaries whenever I get the opportunity off work. I like knowing things around me and the world in general.
I run printing business where I print full photos, passport / ID / Driving License photos, documents, brochures, business cards, posters and banners . I also photograph events like birthday parties, home coming parties, weddings, get-together events, then print the photos.
On a normal day i make between USD 20- USD 30 daily but on good days i can make up to USD 40.
My long term goal is to have a complete Photo Studio . Having a studio can increase my earning by close to 50% because currently the Kenyan market for professional photos is very big, and there is a vast area to focus on from portrait photos , magazines, political campaigns, events such as weddings, funerals and much much more.
I use 30% of my daily takings to cover my personal and family expenses, and 70% to cover my business expenses, including rent electricity, and materials."
Currently I Have a Basic place for taking Photos/passports I am Planing to buy Photo studio equipments which include. Photo Studio Continuous Lighting kit, Softbox, Boom arm, 3 Background seamless colours & Stand . On Ebay they it costs roughly around usd 255- 300.
One problem I have currently is balancing the light in the room, so that I can take clear photos (photos with shadows). With the lighting Kit I will be able to balance the lighting in the room, thereby improving the quality of my photos will improve. The kit will also enable me to be more productive, as I will take less time preparing for the photo shoot
With the studio kits I expect my profits to increase from the current usd 20 a day to around usd 45, the reason am pegging on such an increase is that professional photos are charged around usd 20 per hour depending on the client. I can also be renting out the studio kit to other professionals for around usd 40 per day
