About Me

My name is Betty Auma.I am the second born in a family of five.I am also a single mum to my seven year old son.I went to school in Moyyo Academy before moving to Eshikalame primary in Imanga village when my parents separated.Passing my primary education final exams(KCPE) ensured that i was called to a private national school. However, due to financial difficulties i enrolled to a nearby secondary school and still didn't disappoint.I attained a B- mean grade.Since i couldn't join university at the time,i went back to Nairobi city and got a job at a canteen.Later in 2007 i got another job as an office assistant at transport company.Due to my hard work and ability to learn fast i was promoted to accounts assistant. This is because i was able to learn how to use a computer and also quick books software without attending any class. During that time i learned a lot about accounting just by asking colleagues and learning through the internet.I left the company when i got a scholarship to do CPA at Foundation Institute of Africa in 2011.However,it was closed down weeks into the first semester and i looked for a new job, saved and started paying for my fees.I have currently done till section three.I started my poultry business when i saw a demand for indigenous chicken. Most people are trying to watch what they eat and they prefer organic foods.I sourced my chicken that is improved from Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI) in August.

My Business

The reason there's demand for my indigenous improved chicken is because they lay more eggs in a year compared to the normal indigenous chicken. In addition some people prefer it because of it delicious taste. It took me three months after ordering from KARI to finally get my chicks. This shows how many people are interested in this type of chicken.I would like to be part of the people who fill in that gap.My flock of 38 is now 4.5 months old and they are almost laying. My plan is to buy an incubator and be able to hatch chicks that i will sell as day old. There is also market for eggs and meat for consumption.the only risk in my business is diseases which am avoiding by following the vaccination guidelines i was given.

Loan Proposal

Hello Lenders and the Zidisha team, once again i first must thank you for the support you have been giving my business.I will forever be grateful and may God continue blessing you all.My two businesses are poultry and handbags selling. Both have been doing well except recently when i lost some of my chicken. However,am not about to give up on my poultry business.Am planning to get more information that will ensure i never lose any more chicken.I also want to expand it by getting an incubator that costs approximately Kshs.23,500(266 dollars) for hatching chicks. Its the cheapest and hatches 48 eggs,i would like to start with that one.The advantage is it also uses solar. The rest of the amount i will use to get handbags that i resell.I am hoping and praying that soon i will be able to expand the handbags business too. Thanks again for helping us grow our businesses. It really means a lot to us.God bless you.

Hi everyone,am still grateful for the support you are giving me.For once i must admit i made a bad business decision. After i had bought some handbags ad sold them,i was told of something that seemed like a good business idea.Since i am also on the look out for any profit making venture i went for it.It was an african sandals design that was unique and not the kind of maasai sandals that flood our market. This was pretty and different.I went ahead and looked for a supplier and i found a guy who would make them.I told him to go ahead and make me 10 pairs. This sandals were also expensive to make since they require more beads and a lot of time. When he was done he delivered and as usual i put them online for sale. When i posted in one of the marketplaces on facebook, someone warned me of selling knockoffs. She claimed the sandals design was patented and it was illegal to sell.Since then i have been afraid of trying to sell them and am stuck with the stock at home.I really need time to figure out a way out of this. Please lenders i hope you will understand my dilemma and i would really appreciate any advice.I will reschedule to a higher amount once i figure things out. Thanks and God bless.

My community leader, a man I trust above all betrayed me when contacted by zidisha to establish whether or not he knows me. He replied that he has never met me and now my account is blocked. SOMEONE ADVISE ME WHAT TO DO. Even my edit account is not working

I have two businesses the poultry and handbag business. Both have been doing ok until recently when i lost some of my chicken. Therefore,i intend to restock and to do so i will have to buy an incubator to hatch chicks. The remaining hens are laying and am determined to bounce back.So in order to buy an incubator i need more cash so i would like to clear the loan and ask for a new one of a higher amount. This i will do from the money i get from my handbags.I may even have to use the capital but am sure i will get away to also revive the handbag business once i sort the poultry one. Thanks

Hi everyone, the past few weeks have been challenging. The handbag business is going on well. However, some of my chicken died,am not still sure of the disease that caused it since i had fully immunized them. But i isolated the rest and now am thinking of my next move.I will buy an incubator and hatch more chicks and start again.I will be extra careful and even make sure i have a vet to check on them time to time.Am not giving up yet and thanks for your continued support.
