About Me

My name is Samwel Mwangi Ndungu. I reside in Solai near the shopping centre Plot Number 351 Solai Centre which also serves as the market place for the residence. I have a KCSE certificate and a certificate in computer application. I am a married man with four children who we live together as a family in the plot.

My Business

I have a shop at the centre where I sell a variety of items popularly known as Mali mali items and a common shop. Though the profit margin per item might be low, at the end of the day, I sell many items hence making a profit. I make a sale of about 1000 per day which when I subtract the expenditure gives me Kshs. 600 profit margin on daily basis which translate to ksh. 20000 per month from mali mali items and the shop. I also do dairy farming which produce milk for the family while the extra is sold. I sell about 4 litres of milk per day at ksh 40 per litre. I also farm maize, beans, potatoes and other greens for the family. I usually make about ksh. 30000 per season.

Loan Proposal

Receive my sincere gratitude for the past funded loan which improved my business. Now that my business is already in good position I want to turn to dairy farming where I want to buy one dairy cow to start with. This will cost me about Kshs. 60,000 to buy one cow which can produce 40 litres of milk. With this litres of milk I will sell it to the local neighbors at Kshs 30 per litre which will give m approximately 1000 daily. I will also build a modern zero grazing for the dairy cow and buy animal feeds. The rest of the money I will use in improving my business of farming. Thus buying fertilizer, good seeds and insecticides for my plants and also paying workers. The money will help me work well and I will be able to pay in time without any delay. Thank you.

As a Zidisha sincere borrower, this week I took the initiative to go to Solai and find out why Samwel Ndungu has not been repaying his loan. Solai centre is very far from where I live and is about 96km from my home. I visited the place on 2nd, June 2014 and I was accompanied by my brother. Solai is was a very small centre with a population of about 500 people on estimate and almost everybody knows each other. We asked around for the 'Mali Mali Shop'. There was only one major mali mali at the centre. At supposedly Ndungu's shop, we met a shopkeeper & engaged in a conversation with him. We found out that Samwel Ndungu had been an employee at that shop but he resigned and unfortunately he did not report to work for about a week. We took snaps of the Solai administration post and the supposedly Ndungu's Shop. I did not get a chance to take the snap with me in it to avoid raising alarm from some suspecting customers and the photos i have uploaded were the best of shots i could get. Afterwards, his phone went off and they did not understand why he did that. We spent the evening trying to know more. We did everything we could to know his whereabouts or his family but all was in vain. I and my brother spent the night at Solai on that day and travelled back to Nakuru the following day. I took the below photos for reference of our visit. It may be discouraging to give you this negative finding but it is worth to let you know the truth. In spite of the unfortunate circumstance, I hope it will not take your faith away; instead, this should motivate you to support trustworthy borrowers in zidisha. Thank you lenders for your understanding.

    Yours sincerely,

    Joseph Mbogo,

Great effort from you Mr. Joseph Mbogo. If only the rest of us were half as committed to Zidisha as you are, it would be a much better place especially for lenders.

Dear lenders, don't get discouraged by these few pies in the basket and we shall do our best to smoke them out of their hide outs.

    Hi Sven,

I see that you contributed to Samwel very generously. Unfortunately, he has not returned the favour even a year later. ( You must be a very patient person to have waited on him for a year before giving feedback. You amaze me).

I have been following up on him for weeks now. However, the major challenge is that his contacts & that of his listed relatives are not working.

I am now mobilising zidisha members around Samwel to prevail on him to honour his zidisha commitment. It may require my physical travel to Solai to solve this puzzle, if need be.

I will update you & his other lenders on the progress of my efforts to enforce confidence on this lending platform that has really uplifted my quality of life.

I have many honest & deserving borrowers myself who I have invited to zidisha & they are still interacting responsibly.

For example, I have this honest invitee www.zidisha.org/microfinanc... , fundraising his loan, who can use your support. He is hardworking & honest person.

We must all work hard to ensure the zidisha's good lasts for future borrowers!

    Best,
    Shehi.
