I am Nancy born in Nyeri county which is in central Kenya. I grew up in this area where I also went to primary and later secondary school. I did not go beyond secondary school because my parents could not afford the high fees demanded by colleges at that time.
I later met my husband who was working in far away city of Mombasa where I relocated and we are happily married with three kids. I believe my entrepreneurial skills are inborn because I love the work I do. I hope to expand my small shop into a big store in future.
I deal with sales of new and used clothes. I sell new clothes for babies and little children and used clothes for adults. I get my stock from large stores where I buy at a wholesale price and then retail them at a profit. My profit margin varies from 25 - 40% depending on the source and the season.
I make around $200 net per month and I use this money to run the family budget. I hope to keep growing my business with the good support of Zidisha to enable me reach my goal of financial freedom.
As mentioned earlier, I recently took part in a trade fair where I did a good business. I managed to sell aver 60% of my stock and I could have sold more if I had a wider variety. It was a good learning experience and I hope to gain more from such in future. I am now in the process of restocking using the proceeds but I also want to increase my stock so as to give my customers a wider variety.
I will use USD 500 to buy (new) ladies clothes and then use the balance to get accessories such as bags, shoes, chains etc. This will give me a good momentum to even compete with the large stores.
Thank you.
