About Me

I am a lawyer by profession and practise law, i am also a starter farmer and i am interested in furthering my farming. I am the first born in a family of 7 children and come from Kericho County. I started a business since i was not satisfied with employment and i needed to earn more that my salary and also realize my potential. From my earnings, i invest in a little farming. I have currently bought a dairy cow that i intend to start my dairy farming with. I live in nairobi but my farm is in kericho and i have to travel to kericho often to check on things at the farm.

My Business

I have been involved in chicken farming, growing of sweet potatoes as well. At the moment, my chicken have reduced in number and production has been low. The source of income from chicken has been dwindling due to reducing stock and the price of eggs has not been favourable. Cost of production has been quite high. I would like to use the loan to continue my vegetable business. I have leased 10 acres of land in Narok where i have already planted vegetables in the nursery and will be transplanting them soon. The availability of water is the main issue as it is a semi arid area. We are relying on irrigation and we have to pump water from the rivrer to the farm which is about 1.2kms away from the farm. This make production costs slightly higher than in other areas where there is sufficient rain.

Vegetables are always in high demand as it is a staple food in Kenya. My typical costs are on seeds, fuel for the pump, food for the workers, fertilizer, pesticides and accommodation for the workers. The revenue is about 30 to 50 ksh per kilo of vegetables.

I will use the income from the vegetables to pay school fees for my son and also expand the farming to chili farming where there is better prices than vegetable farming.

This loan will help me to buy fertilizer to use for transplanting the vegetable as there is need to hire extra people to transplant 10 acres of vegetables. I currently have 3 workers in the farm who are permanent.

Loan Proposal

I have enrolled in a Master's degree at the University of Nairobi and currently i am at a point where i am required to choose a topic and work on my proposal. I have already chosen a topic and i have done the proposal. I am remaining with the rest of the body of the thesis which requires data collection in the field. Going to the field and collecting data required money and this money will be used to ire two researchers to conduct interviews, distribute and collect questionnaires from the respondents.

I am therefore applying for this loan to enable me do my data collecting effectively and submit a report on my findings. I am appealing to the investors to afford me this chance to complete my thesis and graduate with a Master's degree.

Research work is an integral part in any thesis. A thesis cannot be complete without researh work. Sometimes, it is hard to do the reseearch as an individual and so we enlist the help of assistants who not only have the experience in research and data collection, but also help to shorten the time spent doing research as more people are able to cover ground faster and this also bring together people who are of different expertise.
The loan has gone a long way in ensuring that i get to do a well researched thesis and one that when presented to the professor, shows a level of good research worthy of publishing.

I used the loan to pay researchers to assist me collect data for my thesis application. This has made a very big difference as research work is not easy and the need of research assistance cannot be wished away. They have been of tremendous help and since the service is not free, the Zidisha loan has been of great help.
Since this was not a business investment, the loan did not bring any earnings and was only payment for service procured. My neighbourhood has a hospital and a university and i live with people from all works of lie as most of them are civil servants working for various departments in the public service and interacting with them has been great. It has opened my mind about various departments in the public sector.

My last loan was used to pay research assistants to collect data for my Master's Degree thesis. The research is going on well and i hope to graduate in December 2018. I am however still pursuing the degree and the thesis is not complete. It is still a working progress and i shall update the Zidisha team from time to time. I really appreciate what Zidisha has done for over over the past few years and i hope to continue to borrow and also improve my credit score with Zidisha.

I would like to reduce my installment amount for the next few weeks just untill things get back to normal. Business has been very slow and the elections period in Kenya has not been very kind. I will get back to my normal installments in a few weeks.

Hello Lenders, I spoke with Chelangat and said he is currently financially unstable and promised to start repaying his arrears from 20/09/2017. I told him to adjust his installment to an amount he can managed and he promised to do so.

Thank you very much for the loan. I really appreciate. I do not intend on buying anything with the loan, i intend to use it for data collection for my Master's Degree research project. It will therefore help me pay my research assistants and facilitate their data collection. Thank you very much.

For my previous loan, i used it to grow sweet potatoes, though they di not fair very well, it was a good learning experience. I at least made some profit and i was able to divert the profit to some other activity. I has been great. As it has been said farming is the backbone of Africa and i want to be part of the solution to the food shortage that we are experiencing in Africa.

    Hi all,
I haven't made any updates in a while and here i am. I am so very grateful to Zidisha and it's lenders who took a chance with me and agreed to loan me money to continue with my farming business. I did buy the incubator and have since been hatching eggs and selling the chicken. I also went into broiler business and i cannot complain about how it all turned out.

I am sorry for the late payments. I am yet to harvest the sweet potatoes and will require about 3 weeks to harvest. I am very sorry.

I have been able to make great strides in my chicken farming and even expanded and am currently raising broilers together with the indigenous chicken. The Zidisha loans have been of great help and I believe that with more I can do much more. With a the incubator in place, I now hatch chicks and sell them as day olds, week olds or month olds.
Zidisha has been such a pillar in this business and I believe I shall grow even more with Zidisha. It has helped a lot of people who would otherwise not have funds to run their business and grow them.

I am sorry that i have defaulted in the repayments. I had traveled to an area where i could not access mpesa and it became difficult to make payments, i am however back now and i would like to reduce my due payments as much as i can but it will be difficult for me to pay all of it at once. i shall however strive to clear the arrears and then resume normal repayments once i have completed the overdue repayments. I am very sorry for whatever inconvenience that i have caused and i do hope that you can understand my situation. Please accept my sincere apologies. i am however hopeful that we shall continue with the working relationship that we have enjoyed.

Hi, am very sorry for this very late reply. I don't know if it's still relevant, at that time I was in a place I couldn't access mpesa but things have worked out so far. Thanks a lot for your concern. I hope you are well.
