About Me

My name is douglas kinuthia muiruri I was born in 1952 at mai-a-ihii at kikuyu in kiambu county being a second born in a family of six. I joined mai-a-ihii primary school in pre-independence Kenya for my basic education. as i was completing my primary education, my country Kenya was now an independent country and there were better policies towards education so I joined kikuyu secondary school for my o levels. I performed well and got a chance to join kamwenja teachers training college in 1972 . I graduated as a p3 teacher in 1975. Since then i have taught in many school until when I decided to start self employment. I settled on commercial farming a business that I run up to date. I am married and blessed with 5 children who are all adults. I look forward to be a zidisha member.

My Business

My business is basically farming at my farm in Gema scheme in gilgil town. I grow green vegetables, kales, cabbages, potatoes, onions, tomatoes and more recently I am growing asparagus and mushrooms in greenhouses which is become more popular among many communities in Kenya. I started commercial farming after I realized there was a great demand for these produce in all urban areas where no food is grown. I also carry out dairy farming. I have 12 milk cows which gives me between 25 and 30 liters of milk daily. I sell my produce at farm gate prices to retailers who came to correct from as far as Nairobi. For the milk it is collected every morning by Brookside dairies were I am paid at end month. The income I get from the farm is substantially good because I was able to educate all my children and support my aged parents. I have also been able to build a house where I live in. The only challenge I face is luck of a proper cooler to preserve all my produce from going into waste during hot seasons. With zidisha platform I will be able to overcome these challenges.

Loan Proposal

Thanks zidisha for your continued support, i wish to also thank all my lenders for their generous contribution in my previous loan. for this loan, i will buy seeds and fertilizer to grow short term crops through irrigation for sale in the early months of next year 2015 which is usually dry. this will give me good profits as the prices are always high. i will also buy fodder for my dairy cattle to see me through in the dry months of January and February. this will assure me on constant supply milk for sale. i look forward for your contribution towards filling my bids.
