About Me

I am a born again christian, married with two kids.I live in Kaptembwa Estate.
Professionally I am a nursery school teacher , but currently I am a business lady. After resigning as a nursery school teacher, I enrolled for a tailoring and embroidery training after which I started my own business on the same.Apart from doing business, I am also a musician.I have recorded an album (WASTAHlLI) with songs such as Enzy project and and Wastahili, both by Purity Achieng. The Songs are available on You Tube.

My Business

My business involves tailoring and embroidery.I make bed covers, cution pouches, curtains, table mats, bags and bead work. These goods are in high demand since they are almost like necessities to various homes in Kenya. My customers prefer my goods to those of other competitors due to my competitive pricing and high quality products.I consider my business profitable due to the fact that my monthly income from the business exceeds total monthly expenses. My total monthly sales is approximately kshs18,000 and a total monthly expense of around kshs 7,000, leaving a net profit of approximately kshs 11,000. Being in a low income area the business is faced with a risk of theft.

Loan Proposal

The loan will be used mainly on the purchase of tailoring and embroidery materials, which are very essential for the running of the business.
The main tailoring materials include sewing threads, kitenge, satin, tetron cotton, tie and dye materials, buttons, sponges, linings and zips.On embroidery, the main materials include beads, laces, embroidery threads and embroidery decorations.

My sewing machine had a breakdown sometimes back as I had explained previously. This really affected my customer base, due to the fact that, some of my customers lost their goodwill,But I promise you all that I am much more commited to repaying loan in good time. At the moment the business is slowly picking and am certain by mid November, the business will be back on track.
If granted the grace period,I will be very grateful.
Thanks to all my lenders for bearing with me,God bless you all.

My sewing machine broke down and it is currently undergoing some repair, it is in this respect that I seek to request for the grace period.I believe by the time the grace period will be over,I will already have recorvered and back on track.
at the moment ,I am using the little savings that I have accumulated over a period of time to repair the sewing machine.
I will be much more grateful,if you do consider my request.
    Thanks in advance

    Dear Lenders,
This is Analin Saturria McGregor, Communications Associate with Zidisha.
Purity has stayed in constant communication with us during her repayment cycle. Last December, she was sick for a number of weeks. Later in January, one of her sisters fell ill and was admitted to the hospital. Purity was taking care of her sister at the hospital during the time she was admitted, which kept her away from her home for extended periods of time during this first quarter of 2013. Sadly, Purity informed us a few days back that her sister passed away.
Purity's efforts to honor her commitment to her lenders is remarkable considering her circumstances. Please keep Purity in your thoughts as she continues to recover physically and emotionally from these strenuous months.

    November 25, 2012,

Hello, my name is Dan Cembrola, one of Zidisha’s Kenya Client Relationship Managers. I am currently visiting Zidisha borrowers in Nakuru and its outskirts.

Purity guided me to her place of business on the outer boundaries of Nakuru. As we entered, Purity seemed proud that she was able to have an actual structure to conduct her embroidery business in, many seamstresses simply work on the roadside. However, it was also obvious that she lamented the fact that her embroidery business occupied the space that once was a classroom, the school had to close years ago due to lack of funding.

Purity was actually a teacher herself by profession. However, she also always had a passion for embroidery. As funding dried up for the school, Purity decided that pursuing embroidery full time would be more profitable than teaching. So, for the past three years, Purity has been producing and selling mainly clothing, tablecloths and handbags.

With her current loan, Purity was able to buy thread, cloth, and some other necessary materials. She uses purchases materials from dealers in Nakuru but will sometimes make the three hour journey to Nairobi to access the more voluminous markets there. Some of her items she sells to the general public of Nakuru, but she also has several clients who come to her for custom fitted clothing or special orders for table cloths and handbags.

In the future, Purity plans to own her place of business independently. She rents her current property for 2,000 Kenyan Schillings per month. She's also planning to buy a new sewing machine that would allow her to expand her inventory and start selling larger embroidered items such as curtains and sheets. Although Purity already seems to be very talented at her craft, she is aspiring to return to school to get a better background in design which she believes will improve the overall quality of her products.
