About Me

My name is Fatoumata Bineta Diagne, I live in the Dieuppeul 3 quarter with my three children and my husband. I started sewing to help my husband because the work here is not very good. I want to also help my children to go to school and satisfy their needs. For example, they can become sick – I must work to have something because my husband isn't able to find work on a regular basis.

My Business

I’ve been a seamstress/dressmaker for eight years. I have twenty clients but can only produce enough to satisfy the demand of ten of them. I would appreciate financing so I can scale up my production to serve the other ten customers.

Loan Proposal

With the loan, I would like to buy more fabric to satisfy the orders of my wait-listed clients. Also the thread, embroidery supplies and wages for the tailor who works with me. I even have orders coming in from other companies/retailers. I would like to satisfy these orders and operate with efficiency. If I had the money, I would be able to take more orders, but at the moment I cannot because I lack the means.

Hello Sirs, Once again, I am writing you to reaffirm my happiness and satisfaction for all your efforts that you do to help us and to please us, we the borrowers of Zidisha. I am posting a comment, there are a few weeks to explain to you how I intend to use the amount of money that you are going to put at my disposal. Like I had done with your first funding, I intend to continue my activities. Since I have your support, I have less problems in the tailoring activities that I do. With the approach of the traditional festivals: Korité, Tabaski, Christmas, New Years; I want to take the lead and try to maximize. With this money, I have to: -buy fabric, different types (on this eve of Korité, there is a sale of new things in the markets), -buy trimmings; -repair a sewing machine that is broken; -pay the labor services (apprentices, tailors, etc......); I intend to put an amount aside for unforeseen costs. In total, this is how I intend to use my funding that I am going to receive. However, I will not stop thanking you for your support and for your devotion. Thank you for your understanding. Cordially. Fatoumata B. DIAGNE

    Hello,
My name is Clarissa, I am the Communications Associate for Ziisha. Fatoumata has sent me this comment to post:
    Bonjour,
Salamalek à toute l'équipe de Zidisha. Magui thii Diame!
    Vive Zidisha!
    Vive l'équipe de Zidisha!
    cordiallement.

    Hello lenders,
You cannot imagine how I felt when I received your loans. It's been a great relief. I had orders waiting because I couldn't find the means to finance them. For this, I thank you deeply and count on your continued support. And as mentioned in our agreement, I will do all I can to respect this contract. I love the work I do and I want to carry it far with your support.
That said, I say Alhamdullah (Thank God), I am doing well, and so is my family. With the Korite festival coming up, a festival where tailors get many orders, I am very busy and hope to remain busy because I want to do some good for the future of my family. Thank you for your understanding.
    Cordially,

I recently visited Fatoumata Diagne at her home/studio in a suburb of Dakar where she lives with her two sons and husband. Fatoumata must have told them I was coming because her two sons (ages 3 and 5) were waiting by the door, excited to meet me, on their best behavior.

Fatoumata is very excited to be a part of Zidisha. She is eager to receive financing to grow her small sewing business into something a bit bigger. After meeting with her, it became clear that she is very business-minded and has plans well beyond her small two-machine sewing studio in her home. She badly wants funding to get to the next level.

    BUSINESS

Fatoumata is deeply proud of her work as a tailor. Her business has been able to find an interesting niche: traditional clothing for Senegalese office jobs. Internationally, Fatoumata and her husband have been able to sell her clothing through family members in Mauretania and France to people who appreciate the exotic styles of Senegal. She often makes 10 pieces of clothing a week, but often gets orders for twice that amount. On one hand, Fatoumata is grateful that there is a high demand for her work. On the other, she is frustrated that she can’t fill all of her orders.

    FUTURE LOANS

In order to fill the orders that are requested, she must purchase more tissue, thread, garnish and frills (frills are her specialty). Not only will she be able to satisfy more orders, but more types of orders, making her a stronger force in the market. She is also looking to pay the tailor who works along side her a full-time wage in order to increase production. Apart from understanding how to increasing output, she understands the importance of offering jobs to local people who need it.

Fatoumata told me that she is hardly able to reinvest her profits into her business. She uses most of the revenue to support her family and save to send her two children to highschool, a top priority for Madame Diagne. She dreams of being able to produce more clothing each week and having a healthier cash flow.

I have confirmed the validity of Foutamata's declarations concerning her credit history with a public MFI - Fond National pour la Promotion des Jeunes (FNPJ) - and has entirely repayed her loan on time.
