About Me

My name is Adam Majeed, age 35, a graduate of University for Development Studies (UDS) since 2011. I grew up in the northern part of Ghana, Tamale, where I had my basic and secondary education. I currently live and work in Accra, Ghana. I am married with one kid; however, I take care of two of my senior brother's sons after he passed on in July 2017. In all, I have three children under my care.

I come from a family of 5 siblings with both parents late. We are supposed to be 4 men and only one lady. Unfortunately, the eldest and the lady are also late. I'm the only one educated to the tertiary level (University).

Back at the University, I was already into the business of selling air time credit cards. That was my sole source of livelihood and school fees. On completion and a search for jobs for several years without success, I decided to enter into a mobile money business. I am now a mobile money vendor.

Soccer is my hobby since childhood, but my dream to become a footballer never came to fruition for lack of support, even when I was part of the school team. I was not surprised when my three years old son hinted he wishes to be a footballer. Perhaps, he will make it since I am prepared to push him.

My Business

The mobile money business involves sending and receiving money to and from one customer to the other, respectively, on behalf of telecom network companies for a commission. Currently there are four telecom network companies that provide these services in Ghana, namely: MTN, Vodafone, Tigo, and Airtel. I am an agent to all of these four for the mobile money business. This is the most convenient method of cash transactions which even captures most of the people who are not banked in Ghana. It saves time as compared to the traditional banking systems. The customer base is very large.

Our operation costs include: monthly water and light bills, local government taxes, salaries of sales boys/girls, as well as annual rentals of business premises. Profits are divided into three: part for reinvestment, part for children's school fees, and part will be used for charity work, i.e., I will buy some food items for an orphanage home.

Loan Proposal

I currently do only mobile money transfer, but however, I wish to add some other activities that will surely increase my profit levels. For instance I wish to add the sale of airtime units ( credit cards and electronic units transfer) for the telecom network companies, internet data bundles top ups for some local internet service providers (surfline and buzzy internet users).
I also wish to expand my business by opening another shop only for mobile money transfer, therefore cost of rent and employing an additional worker are involved. In all these, an approximate amount of $300.00 will be required.
Once I am able to do these, my gross profit level is expected to increase from the current 15% to 25% after the the investment.

    I will continue to be grateful to zidisha lenders for their support. I am always busy at my shop because I have money to be able to serve more customers. An amount of GHS 1273 loan that was given to me has empowered me financially. God bless all the lenders and zidisha team.

    Another busy Friday for me as my customer base is expanding. I am filling forms for additional MTN and Vodafone Merchant SIMs for my second shop. Thanks to my zidisha lenders for keeping me in business with their loans.

    Hi zidisha lenders. You gave me a loan of $294 in December, 2017 out of which I used $87 to mould a new container for my second shop. Chunk of it was invested in my current operations to generate more profit to settle the whole loan and part was used to pay my son's school fees.
    I am happy to announce to you that I have finished repaying all your money from the profits I made. I have also used part of the profit to furbished the new container for the new shop pending any future support from you to start operations at the new site.
    Check me at the new shop in the pictures below.

    Zidisha has made me happy and proud of myself as a potential future employer rather than an employee. With the support of zidisha lenders, my business has grown and I have to employed this young Senior High School graduate. She is quite a hardworking young lady and she is part of my success. I am happy I to have provided her a job to earn a living.

    From the look of things,Ghanaians die more of preventable deaths than natural and unpreventable deaths. The main reasons are just bad attitude from the citizenry coupled with lack of law and order, and as well as weak regulations and regulatory institutions. Poor governance and leadership are not exonerated.
    One of the main preventable deaths I talked about is ROAD ACCIDENT. The statistics is alarming and currently it is believed to be the leading causes of death in the country.
    In 2016 alone, road accident claimed the lives of 2084 Ghanaian lives and 2076 in 2017 alone,according to the Motor Traffic and Transport Development (MTTD) of Ghana. This is unacceptable and scary, but the citizens and central government are two sides of one coin.
    On a major highway that passes by my shop, in fact within the heart of the capital city Accra, two holes are created on the road at a T-junction and causes serious damage to people's cars and continue to posed death treat to all of us who work around there.It has been at that state unattended to for more than one year now. Authorities and citizens look unconcerned. Government and private vehicles use that road and non of them has actually seen the need to call the appropriate authorities (Road Safety Commission) to work on it. This and many more of such are the major characteristics of our roads. Pot holes every where. We can not continue to die like fouls and that must stop at a point.
    Please take a look at these pictures of the place. Especially the second car. Its a government car (GOV 30-14) registered in 2014. I took it this afternoon.

    Thanks to zidisha and zidisha lenders, I have enough capital and customers are coming and my shop is one of the busiest. I have been able to increase my net profit from an average of GHS 30 to an average of GHS 50 a day. My family is the most beneficiary of this success and we are quite happy now. Long live zidisha.

    One of the major developmental challenge s of Ghana is sanitation. It's a bottleneck to quality public health. The whole country is engulfed with filth. Of late, it's assuming an alarming proportion. But several efforts by central government to correct it proved futile and the consequences are glaring every year, every month, and even every day.
    Talk about the annual rain floods caused by filths and choked drainages. The June 3 2015 disaster that claimed the lives of nearly 200 people. Over 100 people died of cholera two years ago. Cholera is a popular case at our health centres.
    From an individual perspective, I carefully observed that its purely attitudinal and nothing else.
    At my new shop, I came to meet a very choked drainage right in front of my shop and four other traders who are in the same line. I am told it has been that for how long only God knows. When I suggested we contribute some money to desilt it they refused. What amazed me is that the customers too continue to trade with them and careless about the state of the sanitation.
    Just watch the pictures. Those are the scenes of our physical business environment. It's quite nasty.
    However, I intend to lead an exemplary life.

    I'm currently embarking on my business expansion projects which consume my revenues. I am unable to pay the full amount for now but will surely finish full repayment before 20th March, 2018.

    I was at the workshop of the welder who is moulding the container for my second shop. This will cost GHS 400.00 ($87). I was able to pay with the loan zidisha lenders gave me. With zidisha lenders, I'm growing and will continue to grow. Long live zidisha, and God bless all the lenders.

    This boy is my son who refused to take his breakfast before leaving for school because he had an exam to write. Can you Imagine, he was even still reading on his way to school. The mother had to come in to convince him to stop learning and eat and go to school.
    Thank God, zidisha has come to keep the fire burning. I'm able to pay his school fees to continue his education because of zidisha's support. We are quite a happy family now than before.

    I wish to express my profound gratitude to zidisha lenders for funding my loan. I received an amount of GHS 1201 loan I applied for from zidisha. It has really helped me a lot in running my business(mobile money):
    I have used party of the money(GHS 500) to buy airtime credit cards to sell, thereby introducing additional business activity aside the mobile money;
    I have also used part of the money (GHS 300) to pay the school fees of my only and first son who just started his first time in school;
    The rest of the money is used to pay for a small container I am moulding to open another shop. I'm over whelmed and my family is extremely happy, courtesy zidisha team and lenders.
    l am particularly greatful to zidisha lenders. May God bless them all for helping us to grow. I also wish to assure lenders that I will not disappoint them. I will surely manage the funds prudently to generate more profit and to settle the loan. Thanks
