About Me

Am BENSON MUCHOKI 21years of age and about 5fts high. I finished my secondary education in year 2011 with a good grade. Am the first born of a single parent family which comprises of my mother and my 3 brothers. My mother and I have been working as casual labourers in our neighbour’s farm inorder to earn a living for the entire family. I have been to many jobs to earn some money and achieve some independence. There is a period of time I was working in horticultural company in the refrigeration department for about half an year and it did not go well with my health. I had to be dismissed from my duties wheni developed breathing problems because of the chemical we used in preserving the flowers. I can admit in our economy it is very had to get employed as a youth and losing this job was equally painful to me as it was with the heath problems, I stayed for two months without a job and that is when I decided to think outside the box and started rabbit keeping. Up to now, I cannot imagine of a better enterprise than farming. I have been encouraging my friends to join in and do farming because it is safer from chemical world that almost ruined my life. I have friends who have agreed to participate in my project and work as a group.

My Business

Besides working in the farms I used my little savings to start rearing rabbits. You cant stop an idea whose time has come ,so they said. At first when I kept, I lose almost all of them as a result of desease outbreakand, but I bought new ones. I have at present 15 rabbits of California white breeed. My friend advised that we can keep them for commercial purposes and true to his words we did survey in Nakuru town and realized that rabbit meat was in great demand in most of the restaurants. That’s when I thought of increasing the number of the rabbits and this will involve setting up new structures and stocking the rabbits for further breeding in order to meet the market demand. It takes only three months for youngones of a rabbit to mature. One rabbit can give birth to upto 12 youngones and a fully mature rabbit sell at Ksh. 800 weighing 3 to 4kgs i have sold so far twice for 25 rabbits and made a pprofit of ksh. 15000. My business iis really growing and I can see smyself happy in my future.
With your help,my plan is to expand my rabbit keeping venture so that I can increase my income and that of my family for the betterment of my future. Rabbit keeping is a good choice since the demand in the market is high and very few people rear them in the locality and the breeding rate is high. With your help ,I am certain that you will help me realize my dream because it is my passion and soon it’s going to be my profession.

Loan Proposal

I want to build a structure that will accommodated more rabbits and I have already kept some savings. Demand for rabbit is increasing because customers do not want to eat meat full of cholesterol which is causing heart problems unlike rabbit meat. I also heard some companies looking for youths who have this ambition and they will merge with serious rabbit farmer and market rabbit meat overseas. I do not want to miss this opportunity. My estimated cost of expenditure is about $170.452 for I have to but timber for the construction of the rabbit’s structures and increasing the stock.I calculated the cost of timber as$11.3635 and 2 kgs of nails @$1.70452 and 4 corrugated iron sheets $9.09079 and for the stock increase is of atleast 10 rabbits costing Ksh 1000 each.Am kindly requesting for your approval of my request to help me realize my dream.Thank you in advance.
