About Me
My name is Jane kuria. I am a mother of two boys named David and Andrew. They are aged 7 and 5 years old respectively. I live in Nyeri county in the middle of Kenya. It is at the slopes of Mt. Kenya. The main economic activity here is farming. There is tea and coffee cash crops too. I come from a family of ten. Parents, 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
My Business
I own a small pub in Karatina in Nyeri town. It is a rural part of the country and the pub does not make much as farmers are busy people. It is a place for farmers to relax after work. Revenue is about US 400 dollars every month. I am also assisting my mother in farming as she is not able now at her age.
Loan Proposal
After the last funding and successfully venturing into organic vegetable farming, getting sufficient home use healthy vegetables and increase the family income, I would now like to venture into dairy farming.
Milk supply in my neighborhood is erratic and often times, the unscrupulous suppliers dilute the milk with water to maximize profits. There are even tales of how some add wheat flour and margarine to the over diluted milk to have it look better.
Hygiene in the handling of the milk and drugs given to the cows is also a concern.
In a bit to get reliable and healthy milk supply for my family, and to additionally increase my family earnings by selling the surplus milk, I would like to get into dairy farming, starting with one cow and growing over time to a herd of them.
I have previously done dairy farming but only failed because I was doing while in the city and the unreliable farm hands neglected the cows in the farm leading to some of them dying and poor production hence I abandoned the project but I do have the requisite expertise and experience.
I need about $800 to get a good quality cow that can produce well, and since my funding will be less than this amount, will top up the balance from family savings.
