About Me

My names are Johnstone Odukhula Oduori.
I was born in a family of nine in the rural western part of kenya. I really treasured my my parents who were peasant farmers and struggled a lot to educate me from the proceeds they got by tilling the small farm mostly in harsh weather.
I struggled a lot in my education and after my o-levels I went to a teachers college to do P1 course but dropped out due to fees.I left for Nairobi where I worked as a gardener and gatekeeper as I raised fees to go to college.
I managed to take a clerical course which later enabled me to work with insurance.
I proceeded to take an insurance examination and later on managed to join university.
Out of campus I have been able to form an organization that trains/capacity builds youth and women in life skills to face the challenges in life.
Thank you.

My Business

Besides selling insurance,I am giving back to the community via providing trainings/capacity building youth and women in micro business management, group formations, proposal writing and fund raising.
my market is mainly religious institutions, registered Community based organizations etc.
I charge them a small fee for the trainings to help buy training materials and hire of tools.
Currently there is minimal competition as the market is so big and the need for training great.
The risk is that at times some groups have no income to pay for the training fee and others default totally.

Loan Proposal

If the lenders consider my request,I will use the loan in purchasing training materials i.e note books, ball pens,felt/marker pens, charts etc which I do use in training women and youth groups at a fee. This will help me be able to progress with trainings without a hitch as currently I do wait upon the 1st down payment from this groups so as to be able to source for training materials.
In some instances like in schools and religious institutions they prefer doing a one off payment after training so this loan will be of great help not only to me but the community too.

Am so inspired by support the zidisha family accorded me. I have made credit available to the last mile marginalized population who are left out due to the digital divide since they are illiterate. They are not many but with more support even as the fund grows I will empower more.
In the photo is me last last week with my native interpreter reaching out the the village of kapua in Turkana central Kenya.

Hello great team, deeply humbled for your support. This fund works as a base capital to support vulnerable groups am working with in sourcing for seed capital for their businesses when they are stuck. Like a lady who needs some Capital for her day's stock of fish but is at zero. So she is advanced a start up capital for the day and refunds in the evening at a small interest.
This will help me to hold the groups together as they thrive.personally I will also grow in this as my start up business kind of a social enterprise.
Thank you for making my project possible, God bless you all.

Zidisha is the BEST money lending platform, very patient with their clients,it really pulled me through and am so elated that I have cleared my loan even after taking so long. I feel free, and happy that someone else can access funds because I have repaid.
Just to encourage all who have taken long to pay that when things work out,its blessed to pay up. long live Zidisha, God bless Zidisha.

The zidisha funding has greatly helped me uplift my training career.
This year I manged to even train young people in our neighbouring country Tanzania.Evaluation/follow up shows that the youth have since formed groups and are doing very well.
    Thanks to zidisha.

That is a good question for the Zidisha Staff.
I believe you can submit a larger payment, and the extra goes toward the next month payment. Ask the Zidisha staff to be sure.

      Dear Odukhula Johnstone,
I'm sorry to hear that you have a parent who is ill. That can be a difficult circumstance both emotionally and financially.
Please accept my best wishes for an early recovery, and I look forward to your normalized payment schedule.
      Sincerely,
      Marvin

How I wish I had learnt of this noble initiative of very caring people earlier, today I would have empowerred so many young people and women and probably i would already be having my own company by guarantee serving community capacity needs.
I believe that an empowered society is a stable one and zidisha is truely empowering the society by taking such a risk that capitalism focused institutions have shied away from.
Infact I will use this very zidisha initiative to train groups and direct them to source funding through zidisha to actualize what they have been trained to implement.
