About Me

My name is Martin Kimani Mwangi. I was born outside wedlock and really faced childhood destitution. I went through my primary education in abject poverty; mainly at the mercies of my community members. By the grace of God, and owing to my efforts at the primary level exams, I got a sponsorship from Save the Children UK through Starehe Boys Center Field Office. Due to extreme poverty I was mainly in-and-out of school, sometimes even lacking the basics to sustain me in school. After school I worked as a Volunteer Children Officer in my area district where I vigorously advocated for the rights of the children. I am now an adult Kenyan, working as a community Digital literacy trainer. I have been in this program since 2011, having trained in various rural counties in Kenya. I have a mobile computer lab that's fully equipped. The program is an initiative dubbed PASHA.

My Business

I provide email services, social media and eGovernment services and bureau services such as photocopying, scanning, document printing and binding, digital photography services, selling stationery. i have also been offering basic ICT skills training to adult learners especially covering the remote rural areas. The trainees pay affordable facilitation fee which mainly sustains the program. The trainings are usually monthly or weekly depending on the clientele. The revenue earned is usually used for the maintenace of the computer lab, besides reinvestment and family upkeep including my children education and also to cater for internet connectivity.

Loan Proposal

Hello my lenders. I humbly borrow 51USD to assist me to purchase Stationary worth 17USD, printer ink valued at 27USD, and photo papers worth 4USD, all will amount to 49USD. The rest will be used for transport. This loan will immensely boost mt training initiative since some of the trainees are from very humble background and only afford to pay little by little. I humbly apeal that I be assisted to be able to offer the community computer training effectively and efficiently so as to enable my objective of crossing the digital divide.

    Hello my esteemed Lenders,
It's my pleasure to express my heartfelt gratitude for your kind gesture to finance my loan. I will utilize the loan for the purpose to which I applied and repay in due course. This loan will go a long to support my Digital Literacy classes in subsidizing the learners payments for the training materials. Some learners are from a very humble background and therefore needs a lot of support to acquire computer skills which are among the basic skills in the 21st Century. Thank you for being part of the great team that supports this vital community empowerment program. It's my humble prayer that even the next time I apply that you kindly be of support.
    Kind Regards,
    Martin

Hello my lenders and Zidisha community. I wish to reduce my installments due to the fact that I am shifting the training from Bahati to a place called Kabatini. This exercise is a bit expensive coz it to involves moving the whole computer lab with a hired vehicle. I look forward to adjusting the installments later. Kind regards

Thank you very much for lending to me. I apologize for having taken long to acknowledge the receipt of the loan. The reason s that I have been writing to Zidisha technical team to repair my system since last week, since I have not been able to post any comments of late. I have been trying to post acknowledgement in vain.Kindly.

Yes. It's transferred back to my "Lending Account Balance". I can immediately use it to fund another loan. (Repayments are also transferred to the same Account Balance).

It's also possible for me to transfer between PayPal and my "Lending Account Balance". But then I have to pay PayPal transaction fees.

    Dear Martin

I also hope you get the funding you need.
It is very important that children and others have computer skills. Education is essential.
Where would you get your computer supplies from? Do they have a website or anything like that?
Perhaps it is possible, and I will not promise anything, that I can buy the paper and inks etc from here and you can then collect them.

There is a topic on the forum about gifts.

Just my two cents. A loan is better than a gift.

I concur with you Joost. It's in line with Zidisha initial principles and beats dependence syndrome, since one has to make efforts to ensure the loans are repaid and also the lender feels involved in changing lifes through his/her resources. It's brings mutual psychological satisfaction. Best regards, Joost as I look forward for your few coins before time expires, kindly.

Hello Joost, I have decided to apply your great advice regarding sticking to my credit limit, and therefore have cancelled the MFL. This was mainly informed by the fact that lenders seem to lend only funds that are within my credit limit. Hopefully, the loan will be funded abit faster. Regards.

Hello Peter, thanks for your interest in my initiative. I hope and wish you have gone through my profile which states that I teach computer skills to the less fortunate in the Great Rift Valley region of Kenya since 2014. I secured some money and acquired computers from Computers 4 Africa, actually I have a full computer lab. Regarding the website, I couldn't afford the high cost of annual maintenance, so for about 2 years now my website has not been active. The aim of this loan is to enable me have materials in place to produce notes as well as Ms Word, Ms Excel guiding exercises. The learners earn meagre wages and they pay little by little before they lapse of the training time. The key point here is that you are assisting very very needy cases, Sir from very hard-to-access areas. I think Madam Director has a rough idea of what I mean by remote part of some of these African terrain. Kindly, bear with these kind of cases, and get the reason of why some of us end up praying for Divine blessings from God Almighty. Its as serious as that, my dear friend, Peter. Kind regards.

Hello Peter, I have heeded to Joost's advice regarding sticking to my credit limit instead of including members funds in my loan. Therefore, I cancelled my earlier loan and re-aplied for another. I am hereby looking forward to your kind consideration, as you had done so that my application does not take long to be funded. It's just my humble request. Best regards.

Hello my esteemed lenders. I kindly apply for this loan to help in purchasing printing papers for my computer skills class training materials, i.e. 5 reams costing 1750KES, 3 sets of printer ink, costing 2700KES, and photo papers costing 450KES; all totaling to 4900KES. The rest will cater for transport cost.
My previous loans have been so helpful in that the funds have enabled my trainings to be effective. This is mainly because some trainees are from very humble background who pay little by little till they complete the course.
The profit I accrue from these trainings goes towards feeding my family, my children's education, catering for internet costs among other areas.
So far Zidisha Lenders have been of immense help and I am humbled to be part of these great initiative. I foresee a situation where after two years of continued Zidisha assistance I will have crossed the poverty line and hopefully become one of the lenders so as to stand with those in need.

The previous loan assisted me to train without any problems given that most of the trainees are from very humble families who only afford to pay little by little till the complete the class. The earnings goes towards catering for my family upkeep, children's education fees, internet cost among other training overheads.
