About Me

My name is Nancy Ochieng from Kenya. Am from a family of six children. Am the eldest of them. We have been brought up by the mother after the death of my father some years back. Due to the hardship we have experienced, l have had a tough time in my secondary education. I have been doing small scale work for people such as washing for them clothes so as to get some little income to help in feeding our family. The little saved have been able to get to learn how to operate computer and to buy one desktop which l use in my newly starting cyber business. This will allow me to get some extra income and help me also in making household decisions which is a unique issue in our society with ladies. Once empowered through the business, l will be able to help educate my other siblings to achieve their dreams in education of becoming good doctors, lawyers and engineers. My main hobby has been socializing and l feel that will help me in the business since l will be able to interact well with people.

My Business

Am very grateful for the loan l received which l finished paying recently. Thanks very much my lenders. I am now applying for a loan for a house project. ln our area, there is high demand for housing. My new project is to finish the two 1 bedroom house project l have began. Am choosing this business because of the high demand for housing due to increased population in our area and the country at large.

The estimated cost for the remaining portion is 400US Dollars. These cost are splitted as follows, cement (140 $) Sand (100$) Ballast (50$) Metals for reinforcement (70$) and labour cost (50$). Once completed, the renting price will be 50$ per house. The initial tenant will pay a deposit of 50$ together with the house rent which is also 50$. the total revenue thereafter will be 100$ every month.

This profit l will use part of it to pay the loan, plough some back to the business and also help paying the school fees for my brothers and sisters togehter with my children. l will also take some for the charity programmes around the area.

Loan Proposal

With an increasing demand by customers for some soft drinks like sodas and other products, l hereby make my request for a loan to purchase a freezer and also some crates of the soft drinks. My customers sometimes get it hard especially when they have to walk for some distance so as to get some cold drinks. Investing in the same will help to closr the market gap and also increase my income.

    This was a large loan and Nancy doesn't appear to be making an effort to repay, nor is she explaining why. I dislike leaving negative comments but do believe in accountability, without it there would be no Zidisha to make loans.

    Hi Nancy,
    You can find answers to your questions on the borrowers forums here;

    www.zidisha.org/forums/1

    Here is an explanation of the fee you paid to join;

    What is the total cost to the entrepreneur?

    Zidisha loans do not carry interest. Borrowers pay a service fee of 5% of the loan amount, to cover the cost of transferring and administering the loan.

    Most loans also carry a required credit risk payment, which is credited to the Members Loan Fund and used for reimbursing lenders in the event of default.

    We may also offer optional services, such as premium membership or expediting service, which carry fees. Purchase of these optional services is not required to raise loans.

    Regards, Margaret

    I have a question that has really bothered me so much, and it's about the very first loan for this safaricom number, how comes I didn't receive it and I can't have access to it even after I managed to pay it fully?
    Was it kind of a fee I was to pay just to join zidisha? Can somebody explain it or just make me understand why this happened? It's really bothering me seriously and my mentor couldn't explain it either.

    To my lenders, l want to highly appreciate your assistance. I have been able to invest in a variety of goods. The fridge l bought from my last loan has enabled me to make juice which l can supply to many people. l am also able to sell soft drinks as l have enough chair for my customers. From the savings, l had now started a house project which l hope to build more units in the future. Thanks a lot for your help and may God bless you as we continue to work togehter.
